Gaugetastic Vest
I love the look of knitted stitches. I also love the look of chunky cables, but sometimes I’m not really feeling like making cables. Sometimes I just want to enjoy the process of making a quick, simple stockinette project, but want it to look a bit fancier than plain stockinette… Enter Large-Gauge Stitches and the Gaugetastic Vest!
Large-Gauge Stitches are created with a crochet hook in knitted fabric before the stitches are bound off. Because of this, you can easily jazz up any piece of simple knitwear without adding more bulk to your project.
The Gaugetastic Vest is oversized and slightly cropped to allow for some movement and flow while being worn. It’s simple and quick to make with a bulky yarn and very basic shaping, but with the addition of Large-Gauge Stitches it becomes a stunning layering piece. Try it over a tank and skirt combo or a dress on warmer days or take advantage of the larger arm opening and layer it over a favorite cozy sweater with leggings to keep you snug in the depths of winter.
Not a fan of cropped tops? You can easily add more length just by working more rows before creating the Large-Gauge stitches. Just remember that if you add length, you’ll need more yarn than I’ve indicated in the pattern.
