Hello!
Today's tutorial will teach you how to pick up stitches from waste yarn so that they are correctly oriented on your needles. This might seem pretty simple to some of you, but we all start somewhere & I've had requests for some basic tutorials in addition to the more advanced ones. By following this method of picking up your stitches from waste yarn, you'll never have twisted or dropped stitches when you're ready to work on the next section of your project.
I've posted the video below along with supplies used and written instructions. If you have any questions, you can always email me directly: shaina@yumiyarns.com
Have fun & happy knitting!
Shaina ^_^
PS: The yarn featured in this tutorial is from from Toad Hollow Yarns using their 2020 Christmas Advent Set. The project I'm knitting on is the 2021 Holiday Recovery Shawl Mystery Knit-a-Long.
Supplies:
Knitting project with stitches live on waste yarn
Knitting Needles appropriate to the yarn
Step 1:
Hold your work so that the Right Side of the fabric is facing you and begin with the stitches on the rightmost side of the waste yarn.
Step 2:
Leaving the waste yarn in the stitches, insert your needle from right to left into the first stitch making sure that the front leg of the stitch points to the right and the back leg of the stitch points to the left.
Step 3:
Continue placing all the stitches from the waste yarn onto the needles in this manner.
Step 4:
Once all stitches are on the needles, cut your waste yarn & pull it through/out all the stitches.
Continuation:
Your stitches are all now safely on the needles and oriented correctly so that you can begin knitting on your project once again.
That's it!
Now you can easily slip stitches onto waste yarn and back onto your needles at any time you like!
