October '23 Book Club Pick and Hand Knit Cowl Pattern!

HELLO!

I was talking with Lily from Merino y Vino about starting a book club for us crafty folk and we decided it would be fun to start things off with the books she's been recommending in her Yarn Surprise Boxes this year. I'm running super late with releasing the designs that correlate to the colorways she's released so far, but luckily for you she's dyed up extra skeins so you can still grab one (or two) if you don't already have one to knit along with us! 😁

Who Can Participate?

Everyone!

This book club is a fun way of getting to know one another through the shared experience of reading and/or making a hand knit cowl together. While we do have a recommended yarn/pattern, if those aren't in your budget right now please join us anyway with whatever you're working on. 💕

What Are We Reading and Knitting?

We're going to start our book club with the book, Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. The yarn we're using is the mustard yellow yarn pictured above (and found here) from Merino y Vino's April 2023 subscription box. The pattern will be a hand knit cowl featuring a flame stitch pattern called The Little Fires Cowl that I'll be releasing October 1. (You can pre-order here. Newsletter subscribers get 25% off through October 1, 2023. Join now to get your coupon!)

Where Will the Book Club Meet?

The book club posts will be unlocked for everyone, even non-patreon members, all you need to do is create a free Patreon account to be able to comment on the posts. This seemed like the easiest way to offer a platform that is comfortable for most to access and will provide a way for everyone to comment about the book each week as we read through it together. Plus, if you are a Patreon member (even at just the $2 tier) you'll get an email each week letting you know what the discussion points & questions are so you don't fall behind.

When Will We Be "Meeting"?

Oct 1 - We will start reading & knitting our cowls

Oct 7, 14, 21, 28 (Sat) - the discussion questions for the week will be posted. There are 20 chapters so the plan is to read 5 chapters per week. I know that can sound intense, but they're short chapters so I think it's very doable.

If there is interest, we could possibly hold a zoom meeting on Oct 28th to discuss the ending/book as a whole. I'll put out a poll closer to that date to see how much interest there would be in a zoom book club meeting that week.

Oct 31 - Finish reading & knitting. Post FO photos on Instagram with your book & knitting project with #littlefirescowl if you'd like to be entered into a drawing for a free copy of December's book club book & pattern.

How Do You Join?

It's super easy! Just leave a comment on this post introducing yourself & what you're favorite book or yarn is and what you like to make. 📚

I can't wait to start with everyone & get to know you all better! 💕
