Knit With Me: Cutting Apart My Socks & Setting Up the Bind Off (The Hard Way!)

Green knitted fabric on needles, in progress, lies on a textured wooden surface. Yarn strands extend from each piece, suggesting ongoing work.

If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to cut apart a pair of conjoined socks, you’re in for a treat (or a lesson in what not to do). In my latest Knit With Me video, I take on the challenge of separating my socks and setting them up for binding off—without the smart step of adding the needles first. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t the smoothest process!

The Project: Conjoined Sock Twins & Sock Madness
Green knitted socks with cable patterns connected at the cuffs lie on a light wooden floor. Yellow stitching is visible on one sock.

For those who follow my knitting adventures, you know that I’ve been deep into Sock Madness, the wild and competitive world of speed sock knitting (except that I'm going at the more leisurely Cheerleader speed this year, haha). This particular project, my Conjoined Sock Twins (Ravelry Project Page), has been an exciting and slightly nerve-wracking challenge. I talked all about it in my latest video podcast, so if you want the full backstory, be sure to check that out too!

The (Not-So-Perfect) Process

In this video, you’ll see:

✔️ Me carefully (and maybe a little anxiously) snipping my socks apart.

✔️ The struggle of trying to get everything onto needles after the fact.

✔️ A real-time, unedited look at the process—set to chill music for the perfect crafting vibe.

Whether you’re knitting, crocheting, or just looking for a relaxing video to have on in the background, this is the perfect way to spend some time winding down with your own project.
