Needing a bit of post-holiday (and maybe post-2020) TLC?
Benny the St. Bernard is here to help! He wants you to start gathering your mini-skeins and left-over bits and bobs of yarn for a fun Mystery Knit-a-Long that's beginning on New Year's Day and running through March 1st, 2021.
This mystery project features mostly cozy garter-stitch with a mitered construction and is reminiscent of a patchwork quilt in a non-traditional (but very wearable) shawl shape. This will be a fun, light-hearted MKaL to ring in the New Year & use up some of that pretty yarn we've all got lying around. No rules, no pressure, just some fun knitting at a moderate pace to keep things relaxing.
I've used my 2020 advent calendar from Toad Hollow for my sample, but feel free to use the fingering-weight yarn that is speaking to you. (Mini-skeins, stash, or scraps are all great choices!) The pattern is designed to work well with everything from tonals to variegated colorways so just pick yarns that will bring you joy to work with.
Read on for all the details & happy knitting! 😘

MKaL Schedule
There are 4 clues total. They will be releasing on Fridays every other week from January 1st - February 12th. This is intended as a casual Knit-a-Long so each clue will use less than 480 yds / 440 m of yarn. I've set things up this way to help relieve some of the pressure that can arise from an intense MKaL schedule. You should be able to just coast through this project without forsaking other events and endeavors for fear of not being ready for the next clue.
January 1, 2021 - Clue 1 is released
January 15, 2021 - Clue 2 is released
January 29, 2021 - Clue 3 is released
February 12, 2021 - Clue 4 is released
March 1, 2021 - Full pattern is revealed
How Do You Get the Clues?
I'm running this Mystery Knit-a-Long a bit differently than I have in the past. Because Ravelry continues to be unsafe for many knitters I've decided to run the MKaL through participant exclusive blog posts here on YumiYarns.com. These posts will include links to add the pattern to your Ravelry library (for those who still use the site) along with the downloadable PDF versions of each clue and some great bonus content!
The really awesome part about doing it this way is that I'm able to provide you with more tutorials and in-depth descriptions than I've ever been able to before. This includes tutorial videos specific to this pattern along with some fun digital goodies just for participants.
I'm really excited for this new format & feel like it will make for a much more immersive KaL for everyone. And, don't worry, even though it will be run through blog posts, I will still be sending you an email each time a clue is released so that you don't miss an update.
How Do You Sign-Up?
Visit the new KaL Registration page to register. You'll get a welcome email confirming your purchase then you can start picking out your yarns!

Ah, thank you! I’ll make the correction & send an update.
Hi, Cindy again! Section 6 has a typo on the Row 11 written directions. According to the chart, there is YO just before the kfb, which is needed to get the +2. Thanks!
Aw, good! Glad it’s working better now. 💕
Hi! I wasn't able to knit anything that I had to concentrate on yesterday afternoon and evening. I have worked on it this morning, and with the adjustment it's working so far. Some repeats of Row 13 (every other one) I end up with a K2 because of the count going up one every 2 rows (+2, -1), but that seems to be working just fine. So far, so good! Thanks!
Hi, Cindy!
I think the st counts as they were listed were causing the confusion so I've adjusted them in the pattern & sent out an update. I tried a few times to re-knit the section myself both from written instructions and from the chart & it seems to work just fine for me. Are you making sure to work the decrease in Row 12?
I did send you an email so we can troubleshoot further or we can chat here. Either is fine. Thanks! ^_^
