September Kit: The Sindri Cowl!

Hello!

It's the beginning of a new month so that means that I've got a new Club Yumi kit to share with you today. The September 2017 Pattern is for the Sindri Cowl! The kit features 200 yards of a gorgeous 2-ply, sport-weight alpaca yarn from Alpacas at Willowbrook Farm and has the option of adding on an indigo dyeing kit.

This month's kit from Club Yumi features yarn from my favorite alpaca ranch, Alpacas at Willowbrook Farm. I've been buying fleece and yarn from them for years at our local fiber festival, North Country Fiber Fair, and I'm thrilled to get to share their beautiful products with you this month!

Each kit includes 2 (100 yd) mini-skeins of yarn in the natural/white colorway. One skein is 100% alpaca & the other is 80/20% alpaca/silk. Club Subscribers recieved an Indigo Dyeing Kit to try their hand at doing some hand-dyeing of their yarns & you have the ability to add a dyeing kit to your purchase as well! The pattern works up beautifully whether or not the yarn has been dyed so it's up to you to decide if you want to play around with this technique or not.

The Sindri Cowl is a highly textured, cabled cowl that is perfect for snuggling into during the first days of Autumn! 2/2 cables feature heavily in this design combined with twisted stitch hexagons and a bit of garter-stitch to round out the patterning. There are 2 patterning options available and instructions for both are fully charted as well as written out.

The cowl begins with a provisional cast-on (tutorial instructions included) and proceeds into the patterning (worked flat) which is repeated until fabric measures at least 20” (50 cm). The pattern can be worked until about 3 yds (3 m) of yarn remains if you would like a longer cowl, though. The ends are then grafted together to form the cowl.

I'll be posting tutorials and tips for cableing throughout September so don't worry if you are a cable-newbie! This is actually a really addictive pattern & because the cables aren't very large, you'll get lots of practice without having to manage too many stitches at once.

I hope that you're all having a wonderful week of crafting & that you're itching to try your hand at dying up your own Sindri Cowls. Get yours in the Yumi Yarns Shop while they're still available!

Happy crafting,

Shaina ^_^

PS: If you love the pattern, but don't want to purchase a kit please sign up for my e-mails so that I can notify you when the individual pattern is released on November 1, 2017.

Pssst... The Sindri Cowl kits will definitely qualify you for the...

Loving Local Craft-a-Long!

In the vein of sharing the Fibershed movement with others, I'm running a Loving Local Craft-a-Long in the Yumi Yarnies Ravelry group and on Instagram. It's running from now through October 31, 2017 (11:59 PM, CST) & is very easy to participate in:

1.) Craft an item using a fiber or yarn that has been produced within 150 miles of where you live.

2.) Post a picture either to the Ravelry group or to Instagram (or both!) using the hashtags #LovingLocalYarn & #YumiYarnsCaL (please use both) so that I can find your entries. Make sure to mention where the fiber/yarn came from & that it is local to you.

3) (Optional) Get a Bonus Entry by making something from a Yumi Yarns pattern.

You don't even have to make one of my patterns to participate. Simply make something with a yarn or fiber that you've sourced locally & share it with the world. (You do get a bonus entry if you use one of my patterns, but it isn't required.) This means that spinners can spin up a locally sourced fleece or braid of fiber & crocheters, knitters & weavers can work their magic with a local yarn. Please make sure that 100% of the materials used are locally sourced (from within 150 of your home) and that you mention the producer in your entry. (Hooks, needles, looms, etc. are exempt from the local sourcing rule, but if you have them, by all means, put them to good use!)

I will randomly draw a winner & 3 runners-up from all entries on Nov 1, 2017 & will notify them by November 7th.

In case you're wondering, this can easily tie into the North Country Fiber Fair Craft-a-Long that I posted about a few weeks ago. Just remember to use the tags from above to enter and craft away!
